Our intention
Our principal aim is to establish a foundation named Analog Shelter: a secure, enduring place to preserve humanity's non-digital industrial heritage, including tools, machines, blueprints, manufacturing methods, repair knowledge, and the skills needed to use them.
Our inspiration is the principle of long-term safeguarding embodied by the Svalbard Global Seed Vault in Norway, which preserves backup seed collections. Analog Shelter seeks to apply that spirit of preservation to analog industrial knowledge and capability. This is an independent initiative with no affiliation to the Seed Vault.
The intended foundation would work to protect both this heritage and the human capacity to survive and remain independent in the face of potential threats from AI and excessive dependence on AI-controlled digital systems. Establishing a secure physical repository is a long-term ambition; this website is an initial step, not an existing preservation facility.
Analog does not mean unsophisticated
Intricate mechanical watches with multiple complications, precision instruments, ingenious mechanisms, and analog control systems belong here. By non-digital and non-AI-dependent technology, we mean systems whose essential operation does not depend on digital computation or AI—not an absence of complexity or ingenuity.
We welcome useful work with AI. Our purpose is to preserve human choice, practical capability, and continuity, not to oppose technological progress.
